Response

I refer to your request for information dated 27June 2024 (FOI 24 - 25/15) under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act (FOISA) in which you asked for the “exact number of current teachers with ASN registration in Scotland.”

By way of advice and assistance, please note that the professional standards teachers uphold ensure that every registered teacher maintains their knowledge, understanding and skills in relation to teaching learners with additional support needs. Where teachers hold specific registration in additional support needs, this reflects an area of individual specialism.

From data extracted on 27 June 2024, the number of Registrants who have either Full or Provisional Registration on the Register of Teachers with the registration category of Additional Support Needs was 700. Please note that this reflects the number of teachers currently registered and not all of them may be actively teaching in Scotland at the present time.

If you are dissatisfied with this response, you may contact informationgovernance@gtcs.org.uk to request GTC Scotland conduct a review of it. You should describe the original request and explain your grounds of review. You have 40 working daysfrom receipt of this response to submit a review request. When the review process has been completed, if you are still dissatisfied, you may use the Scottish Information Commissioner's guidance on making an appeal to make an appeal to the Commissioner.
