I refer to your request for information dated 30 January 2025 (FOI 24-25/89) in which you asked what “percentage of the teachers on the register are female” and what “percentage are male” which we have handled under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act.

As data extracted on 30 January 2025, 77.6% self-declared their sex as female and 22.2% self-declared as male. In 0.2%, no sex was recorded or the registrant preferred not to say.

By way of advice and assistance, you might be interested in a Registration Snapshot Report on our website which shows the self-declared sex of registrants on 31 March 2023 and 31 March 2024 as a percentage of total registrants.
