1. Submit an application for registration in Additional Support Needs
Complete the Application for registration in Additional Support Needs and submit it to us with the following documents:
- Copy of ASN award certificate*

- Details of a referee who can comment on your ASN teaching service.
*If you are currently studying towards a PGDip or Master’s degree programme in ASN and have met the requirements for the award of the PGCert, you can provide a letter from the higher education institution to confirm this in lieu of an ASN award certificate.
Your application will be assessed by a Registration Case Officer and you will be issued with the decision on your application.

2. Submit a Flexible Route profile
If your application is successful, we will add Provisional Registration in ASN to your GTC Scotland Registration.
In order to gain Full Registation, you will need to meet the requirements for Full Registration before completing a document-based Flexible Route profile. To complete this profile, you must obtain a declaration from a headteacher or senior leader who currently holds Full (General) Registration with GTC Scotland that you have met the Standard for Full Registration in respect of ASN.
There are no minimum days required, but we advise that an observation is completed after the equivalent of a period of 20 days working in your endorsing headteacher or senior leader’s school. If you are already teaching in ASN you may submit the completed Flexible Route profile with your application for registration. In this case, if your application is successful and your Flexible Route profile recommends you for Full Registration, we will add Full Registration in ASN to your GTC Scotland Registration.
