Registration in the category of Further Education

It is law in Scotland to only employ GTC Scotland registered teachers as teachers in Scotland’s schools. This employment should align with the teacher's GTC Scotland registration category. The integrity of the Register and applying it in this way is essential as it assures the public and users of the education system that only those with the necessary qualifications are allowed to teach.

Registration in Further Education means the individual is registered to teach in Scotland’s Colleges/Further Education. Where this extends to engagement with school education this is as part of agreed school and college partnership arrangements.

Once an employer has confirmed that a teacher’s registration category aligns to a role, it is for the employer to assess if the teacher has the appropriate professional skills and knowledge to take forward teaching allocated.
