Code of Professionalism and Conduct

The Code of Professionalism and Conduct (CoPAC) sets out key principles and values for registered teachers in Scotland.

CoPAC cannot address every possible circumstance in which teachers might find themselves. It is intended that teachers should be mindful of the Code when making judgements within and outwith the classroom.

CoPAC speaks to the profession and members of the public about the standards of conduct and competence expected of registered teachers.

Although the behaviours described in the Code may be unthinkable to the vast majority of registered teachers, we must identify them so that the boundaries of professional behaviour and conduct are clear and the trust of the public in teachers is maintained.

CoPAC sits within the wider framework of the Professional Standards and provides advice and guidelines for teachers. It will be of value to teachers, employers and the general public.
