How to meet the Standard for Full Registration
To hold Full Registration, you are required to meet the Standard for Full Registration (SFR).
The SFR is the foundation of the Professional Standards for Teachers and is the benchmark of competence required of all registered teachers in Scotland. This Professional Standard is the gateway to the profession and constitutes the teaching standards in which learners, parents, the profession itself and the wider community can have confidence. This Professional Standard encompasses what it is to be a teacher in Scotland.
Your probationary experience should result in professional growth in all three key elements of the SFR:
- Being a teacher in Scotland
- Professional knowledge and understanding
- Professional skills and abilities
Time Limit
Teachers who are working towards the Standard for Full Registration may be eligible for the Teacher Induction Scheme or may take part in the Flexible Route.
All probationers must complete a minimum teaching service of 190 days before they can be considered for sign-off of the Standard for Full Registration.
All provisionally registered teachers have a period of 3 years in which to evidence that they have achieved the Standard of Full Registration.
The time limit starts from the date that Provisional Registration was granted.
