How to meet the Standard for Full Registration
To hold Full Registration, you are required to meet the Standard for Full Registration (SFR).
The SFR is the foundation of the Professional Standards for Teachers and is the benchmark of competence required of all registered teachers in Scotland. This Professional Standard is the gateway to the profession and constitutes the teaching standards in which learners, parents, the profession itself and the wider community can have confidence. This Professional Standard encompasses what it is to be a teacher in Scotland.
Your probationary experience should result in professional growth in all three key elements of the SFR:
- Being a teacher in Scotland
- Professional knowledge and understanding
- Professional skills and abilities
Time Limit
All probationers following the Teacher Induction Scheme have 3 years to obtain Full Registration.
All probationers following the Flexible Route have a minimum of 3 years to maximum of 5 years to obtain Full Registration. Flexible Route probationers will be told the time limit that applies to them once provisionally registered.
The time limit starts from the date that Provisional Registration was granted.
